So I made an irrational decision in May 2012 to enter the lottery for the Houston half Marathon, which was the opening of the flood gates to put my body in motion. I ran the Houston half marathon in January 2013 with little strength training. So needless to say, after multiple bottles of ibuprofen, ice packs, and endless swollen knees, my coworker (Kelly Litwinenko) convinced me to meet Angie and it just so happened to be our birthday. I scheduled my “intro” and I ended up joining that day; here I am to say they’ve changed my life for the better! Don’t get me wrong, I was sore in places I never knew existed – even to this day I come home with new sore spots! I’ve literally shaved 20+ minutes off my half marathon time, I’ve lost 30 pounds, and multiple inches off my body! I’ve learned so much about form, increasing my weights, kettle bells, swings, “squeeze your buns”, and nutrition than I ever imagined. So, long story short – my birthday present to myself last year was to shape up, and that meant more than one thing. Lift something heavy. Learn something new. Eat clean. Train dirty.
